It’s so much fun reworking sketches. I don’t know what I’m ever going to use this for but it’s nice and I like it. Perhaps I can work him into a snowscape with Haruna. 8D
also Tzig, don’t kill me, the reply to your note will arrive shortly. time management still escapes me >Bl

Character/Song Interpretation - “Change”

I realized just how much this song would fit a romance between Dahlia and a currently unnamed and unborn character. I was just kind of fiddling around with the meanings and I… ended up with this. It works. Strangely. I feel kind of bad for her now.

SONG: Change by Deftones [x]
CHARACTERS: Dahlia x ???

I see the events of this song happening sometime soon after Ophelia’s death. Naturally, Dahlia is a wreck. Close to suicidal (but not quite). The “he” in this is a potential love interest. I imagine he and Dahlia, whoever he is, would have met a short time before Ophelia’s tragedy. He follows through the course of Dahlia’s grieving, determines her weakest points, and targets her for his own gain. That’s where this song picks up.

He watched her undergo emotional metamorphosis. It was extremely painful for her to do, though. The pain of going through these changes and remaking herself felt as if she was burning from the inside out (“I looked away / You were on fire”). He watched her change and grow, and this changing caused her to look at herself differently, to reevaluate who she was. In the end, she gained a sense of independence so strong that it seemed like she was never free to begin with (“It’s like you never had wings / And you feel so alive”).

Knowing this, he takes her “home” (which will serve as a metaphor for bringing her “back” to him, reasserting himself as hers and she as his). He puts her on a fault line, shows her how vulnerable and weak she truly is despite her sense of confidence. He strips her bare, right back down to the very core (“I pulled off your wings”). He makes her need him again, and in doing this, he reinvents his own importance in her life to make himself the one thing she depends on. Dahlia, being so easily swayed and easily manipulated, gives in. He laughs at his twisted triumph - he’s all she needs, after all.

Then, in some way, he begins to feel guilty. Not immediately, but eventually, he does. He realizes it was wrong to do. By breaking her down right after she gained that level of awareness, he has effectively ruined her forever, and utterly destroyed any hope of her being able to view herself as being anything but worthless and powerless again. He sees the changes he has made and the role he has forced her into, and finds that he truly liked (loved?) the old version of her more.

Guilty, he tries to make amends. He offers himself to her as she offered herself - he lets her take him, own him, remake him (“Give you the gun / Blow me away”). He’ll even let her destroy him. It’s an eye for an eye. And when she does, he sees that somehow, this was better for her. She has him, and he has her - it’s unconventional, but the feeling of being needed is mutual. They’re able to survive this way. Together, they’ve evolved, and this evolution has brought them closer, even though it was unforgivably destructive.

So… um… holy shit, I just drew Bat Boy (kinda?). You guys remember that trash tabloid, Weekly World News, right? Well, Bat Boy here was in it a lot. I mean I was just screwing around and then I… yeah, I don’t know either.

I couldn’t decide which to post, so have both. 8D Sorta-kinda old sketches of Kendra. The version on the right is slightly different. I was struck with a sense of anatomy.
